I love the dramatic mood you’ve created here, Ellen.

I think it really emphasizes the lighthouse as a beacon of hope or safety for those traveling the treacherous coastlines. And the driftwood, what could become of the ship if the lighthouse failed. Well done!

Very moody. Love the textures in the wood and the lighthouse is very cool. Great capture.

Really cool and full of mood. Is that a reflection off of the light in the house or are they sending out a beacon?

This scene just draws me in…love how the textures bring out more textures in the foreground and really love the muted colors!

I love what you did with this, Ellen! The tone you set is perfect for this image and I much prefer it to a happy, shiney postcard look.

I really like the drama you’ve created with the desaturation and the grainy texture in the sky works really well too. There is kind of a power in being able to process an image to fit our feelings and reactions to the place.

…what Bobbie said.
Is that some of that “beware of driftwood” they warn of on signs? I always thought that was funny until I actually saw some.

Shows so well how a tempest would treat that place – Even on this beautiful day!

Trite? Heavens, NO! That’s about the last word I’d use to describe it. As soon as it came up on the screen, I did the gasp/wow! thing that I do when a photo is just that good. It’s so dramatic, and that subtle judicial use of selective color is what makes it extraordinary. B&W is what’s needed to give definition to the clouds and the textures on land; but the punch of the blue sea and the soft red of the roof of the lighthouse lift it up beyond that.

I like your composition showing the logs in the foreground and the lighthouse off to one side.

Great depth … it just pulls the eye in, and a good call on the partial desaturation. It really gives it mood.
