some photos by Ellen Heinemann

I got to meet up with Val at the zoo while visiting my mom. We both are grateful for digital cams when trying to get a nice motion blur. I think I got three that I like out of a bunch.

This almost makes me dizzy…awesome job at showing the motion!

Oh my! It looks like a real giraffe that wandered onto the merry-go-round and is more than a tad confused.

Love that giraffe! You did a wonderful job with this.

Very nice, Ellen! I want to go practice panning again. There is a new carousel in Brooklyn that might make a good place to practice.

I think what makes this one so great is how the Giraffe grabs the eye.

Very nice effect. I like that the giraffe is the one you stopped the motion on since he looks like the most unique of the bunch. Did you pan a bit?

Thanks Julie, I did pan some, the lighter colored animals were easier to keep the focus on. I got it wrong a lot, not as effective to have a rear end in more focus.

You just can’t control yourself on these rides can you Ellen?

Looks like you got it. The giraffe would be a nice ride, as there is lots to hold on to.

Really great image, Ellen! Really like how the giraffe is more or less in focus and the blur is on everything else.

He looks like he’s about to jump off the carousel!

I love this! Great job… I feel like that giraffe is going to walk out of the picture and let me pet him because he’s so stagnant while the motion of the carousel appears to swirl around him. 🙂 Great post!

This turned out great! Mine are just big smears. Well done! It was such a fun day! 🙂
