The motion of the flag stands out against the taut lines of the rigging.

I disagree, quite unique.. it’s the first one I’ve ever come across taken on a ship. With all the lines and the colourful flag you have an interesting composition IMHO!

Very fitting for the day! Love the way you framed the flag with the rigging and I do like the irony that Judi pointed out.

It may be a bit tattered, but it is still free! 🙂 Wonderful capture, and so fitting for the weekend! 🙂

Love all the detail in the rigging. By the looks of the flag the ship has seen some stormy seas.

I like the shot up, through the lines on the ship. Good strong colors, too.

It’s a great photo with the blue sky and the lines and there’s a certain amount of irony in a flag that says “Don’t Tread on Me” yet is so worn out it looks like its been trampled on.
Better than my unoriginal photo for the day.

In my neck of the Woods Ellen, Navy Flags are Called “Ensigns”, I am not a serious follower of US Navy customs, but suspect that this would be the case there as well. The only Jack I am aware of is the British Navy Jack taken from there National, “Union Jack” but even there the fly an Ensign!
Great Tall Ships shot BTW!
