Beautiful macro and depth of field. Makes me want to get down on my knees for a closer look.

Beautiful fiddleheads! When I used to live in Vermont (a long time ago), folks would go out and collect these by the shopping bag. I enjoyed photographing them…never really acquired the taste, though.

They seem so formal–they remind me of bishops’ croziers.

I agree with Regularman- pretty sure these are not edible. Make a great shot, though!

According to Wikipedia and other sources ostrich ferns(matteuccia) are the fiddlehead of choice. Look out if someone tries to serve bracken fern…

Creative interpretation of coiled. Never knew fern fronds were edible!
Great dof.

Gorgeous mood to this shot – brings the deep, dark woods of the NW right to us. They eat them here (with their poutine, I s’pose!) but I’ve never had them.

I think these are what’s called Fiddle Head Ferns and we have them in the Northeast — if they are Fiddleheads they are edible. We use to go to a sporting camp up in Maine and they made Fiddlehead soup and muffins! It was really delicious and I’d say the closest taste would be asparagus.

I love these. I’ve only known about them for a few years, but now I am fascinated

I always find these so interesting…and amazing that they look so different when unfurled.

I love the dark background.
Did the camera turn on by itself? If not, I wouldn’t guess these to be edible.
